Today’s question is “Should I Use a Real Estate Agent to Buy a House?”

Real Estate Agent - MA and NH Real Estate

In this video Shaun discusses some of the pros and cons of using a real estate agent to help you purchase a property.

Some of the main points covered in this video are:

  1. Why people like to use a buyer’s agent

  2. Reasons you might think about not using a buyer’s agent

  3. Things to look for when hiring an agent

  4. How investors feel about working with agents

When buying a property most people will use their own buyer’s agent to represent them and help with finding a property and through the purchase process. This is usually a good idea if it is your first purchase or if you do not have extensive experience in real estate. However there are some reasons people might not want to use one. Also it is unfortunate that it is fairly easy to get a real estate license and many agents are not particularly good at the job. The most important thing to do is if you are going to work with a buyer’s agent is that you make sure to interview them and ask a lot of questions to make sure that a) they are a good fit with you (you might be spending a lot of time together so make sure you like them) b) they know the area you want to work in, and c) they have a lot of experience facilitating transactions. It is good to give someone new a chance but if you do make sure they are at least part of a team that has more experienced people on it to support the new people.
